Aspen Highlands is the locals favorite. Steep and deep is the mantra here. Lots of trees and long runs. The Highlands Bowl is the highest skiing in the United States. There are picnic tables with great views of the Maroon Bells.
Aspen Mountain is landmark ski area in Colorado and deservedly so. The only Green run on the mountain is the service road/cat track down. Lots of bumps and the town of Aspen and all it has to offer is at the base. Chilling on the sundeck with it's majestic views and Hollywood types is a great way to picnic.
Buttermilk is the smallest of the Aspen Mountains and was usually thought of as a good place for beginners. This mountain now is more known as home to the Gen-x boarder generation as it is host to the X-Games and has North Americas best terrain park and half-pipe. Lots of picnic areas that are fun to watch the jets land and take-off.
Beaver Creek is the most underated mountain in North America. It was first to use mandatory bus rides to the area which was hard for locals to get used to, but offers lots of steep bumps on the Birds of Prey and for those who know where to go has excellent trees. Picnic on the mountain or chill in the village and watch Americas Power Players stroll by the ice skating rink.
Vail mountain is.......HUGE. Constantly rated as one of the top three areas in North America it is deservedly so. The bowls can offer powder all day long on terrain that is wide open. There is all kinds of terrain and lots of skiers. There are some picnic tables around the mountain and most of the views are of other parts of the mountain.
